Think about how food is presented
This one isn't just for the kids, a lot of us tend to eat with our eyes. If something doesn't look appetising, you'll probably be in no great hurry to try it. Giving your food a rustic look, is one way to make it look tasty, it has a homemade feel to it rather than looking processed and shop brought. Also, try to make your food look colourful by using a mixture of vegetables. You can also do this with fruit salads. It instantly makes it look pleasing.
Try different things and work out what you like
This is especially true if you're trying to switch from a fast food diet into home cooking. Take a look at your balanced diet plate and find out which foods you really like out of the different food groups. You can try cooking things in different ways too, to keep what you're eating new and exciting. A potato is a classic example of something that can be cooked in a number of different ways. You can even make your own healthy chips by cooking them in a small amount of olive oil.
LET'S GO KITCHEN SHOPPING
Exchange sugary snacks for fruit If you find yourself sneaking downstairs to the chocolate draw, one to many times, you might want to exchange a few of those trips with a trip to wherever you keep your fruit instead. It's a great snack food and you'll soon find yourself getting your 5 a day. Cherry tomatoes are really great for this, there's lots in a pack so they're great if you just want a little snack whilst you're working.
Add different flavours
It was an ex-boyfriend who first suggested that I should try putting some herbs in my egg, that I was having for breakfast. It really made all the difference. Healthy food doesn't have to be bland. Have an experiment with different seasonings. You could even buy some fresh herbs or grow your own. Cooking can be lots of fun when you experiment.
Keep having those fun treats
Keeping those fun treats can give you something to look forward to and they can also help you to maintain your weight. There's always a lot of talk about losing weight but if you naturally are a healthy weight eating healthily can be a challenge. If you eat to less, you might find yourself slipping underweight and that can cause all sorts of health problems. Having one day a week where you eat a cake or where you eat out at your favourite fast-food place can help with that. I think it's important not to get stuck in an all-or-nothing approach when it comes to eating, if can trigger mental health issues.
